What a fortnight…

Recently I’ve not been venturing through the Technological world as much as I’d like to, owing to complications with a client, some mild flu that just won’t shift (no matter how nicely I ask it), massive development over at MonstaPro, among other things…

Fortunately I have had some time to style some of the addenda in my portfolio; unfortunately the design didn’t quite fit all the content I wanted to stretch it over…

Even though the design is very simple, I only want it to affect the rest of the page in an entirely minimal fashion. A “slight impact” is what I’m aiming for. While my best (design) work is inspiration- rather than technologically-based, I think it’s sensible to maintain some amount of logic in a given design. Although the (one! Just one!) graphic has been successfully integrated into the theme, I’m still not sure of its own design.

It was quite definitely a good idea when I was sketching it (into a diary), while sat in front of the telly, probably slightly frustrated that I hadn’t come up with anything yet, while not really focussing on it at all…

Sadly things got complicated (like Facebook 1.0) when I started to put mouse to window. Knowing that I had to import a new design into an existing graphic was not the problem. The problem was making sure this import made an impact, but still kept its distance from the mainstay of the content. I chose to implement this physically, keeping my new mascot in the top-right corner. This took a little tweaking as he kept misbehaving by hiding behind things and such…

This turns out to be the main problem: however this is one example of the cloud “parting” I don’t want to see! Perhaps I can attach him (it has a gender! Who knew?!) to the title of the projects page, but then I’m faced with making him a different size because (I can feel this coming on) the flighty wee fluff won’t fit. Probably and only along one axis too…
